Jubilee Year Launch - 24th January

Today some children from Year 5 led an assembly to launch the Catholic Church's Jubilee Year - Pilgrims of Hope. We were reminded about what Jesus’ mission on earth was: to bring hope, love and peace to people’s hearts and of how this year in particular is a perfect opportunity for us to live this mission. We want to try and make a huge difference in the world and we’re so excited to start our journey of hope together!

Mad Scientists Assembly - 23rd January

Wow! What an amazing morning we had with Mad Science North England watching some fascinating experiments. The children loved helping 'Explosive Erica' to test out different scientific theories. The children can take part in Mad Science club after school next half term - sign up now so you don't miss out on the fun!

  

Handball Tournament - 22nd January

Well done to the Year 4 children who took part in a handball event at the Deans Primary School and came in 2nd place! What a fantastic achievement! Miss McHenry said they represented the school so well and worked together as a team throughout all of their matches. We’re so proud of you!

Rock Stars Day - 10th January

Today we celebrated all things MATHS as we asked children to come in dressed as rock stars for our Times Tables Rock Stars Day! The children wore some fantastic outfits which they had a chance to show off in our celebration assembly this morning. The children were set maths challenges throughout the day, including some class battles on Times Table Rock Stars. What a magnificently mathematical day we've all had. Rock on!

Christmas Celebrations

This week we have been very busy with lots of Christmas celebrations. On Monday we had our Christmas Dinner and Jumper Day - what a scrumptious meal we had! On Tuesday we had our Polar Express Day which was thoroughly exciting! The children came to school in their pyjamas and enjoyed a host of festive activities such as decorating gingerbread men, Christmas crafting, writing letters to Santa and enjoying a yummy hot chocolate. The afternoon was party time where we enjoyed a surprise visit from Santa Clause and one of his elves. The children had their photographs taken with Santa and were all given a present too. On Wednesday, Years 1 to 6 took a trip to the cinema to watch Moana 2 - it was fantastic! Reception and Nursery had their own special cinema day in school with some treats. We have had a wonderful and fun-packed Advent and are looking forward to a good rest over the holidays. Merry Christmas everyone!

Waterside Carol Singing - 13th December

Today, some children from Year 6 visited Waterside Specialist Support Centre to sing Christmas carols. Waterside is a day centre which provides support for adults with ASD and complex disabilities. The children sang beautifully and brought so much joy to the people using the centre and to the staff who work there as well. The children were an absolute credit to the school and made us all very proud.

Year 1 and 2 Nativity - 12th December

Key Stage 1 children treated us to a very professional Nativity! The children in Year 1
read the Christmas story while Year 2 acted it out. The Year 1 children had learnt their readings off by heart and said their lines beautifully and clearly so we were able to follow the story. The Year 2 children acted out their roles so reverently. Well done everyone!

Early Years Singalong - 11th December

Well done to Nursery and Reception who did fantastically well entertaining us all with their Christmas Singalong. It was quite overwhelming for them to sing in front of such a large audience, especially for the Nursery children as it was their first time performing, but they did brilliantly - well done everyone!

Carol Concert - 9th December

Thank you to everyone who joined the Key Stage 2 Children today for their carol concerts. They entertained us with a selection of traditional and modern carols and really got us in the festive spirit. We hope you enjoyed yourselves as much as we did!

Santa Dash - 6th December

The children had a smashing time this afternoon taking part in our St. Mark's Santa Dash! They took to the mile track in their festive outfits to raise money for school funds. They truly got into the festive spirit and earned their sponsorship money - well done everyone! Thank you so much for all your support.

  

Advent Service - 3rd December

Well done to the Key Stage 2 children who lead the Advent Service beautifully this afternoon. The children read, acted and sang magnificently well. What a wonderful way to begin our Advent journey and to be reminded of the true meaning of Christmas. Thank you to all of the parents and carers who came along to watch, we are so grateful for your support.

Sparkle Day - 28th November 

The children dressed in their sparkliest outfits today to raise money for the Brain Tumour Charity. Thanks to all of your generous donations, the children have raised an amazing £600.95! Thank you so much for all of your support. We really hope this money can help to make a difference in loving memory of some St. Mark's family and friends.

Dodgeball Tournament - 20th November

Congratulations to our Year 5/6 team who competed in a dodgeball competition this afternoon. They came first place and are through to the Salford finals - amazing!

Children in Need - 15th November

This year, the children completed a sponsored event in school to raise money for Children in Need and really tried to understand how important it is to ‘lighten the load’.  Thanks to your amazing generosity, we raised an incredible £800.18!!! Thank you so much for all of your donations on the Just Giving page and through the cash donations. We know that this money will make such a difference to children’s lives.

Remembrance Day - 11th November

Over the last week, the children have been learning about Remembrance Day and have taken part in a number of activities to commemorate the service and sacrifice of all those who have lost their lives in wars around the world. Children have been buying poppies to raise money for the Royal British Legion who help the Armed Forces community. Year 5 and 6 took a fascinating trip to Swinton Cenotaph and Salford Veterans Memorial Garden, where they were shown around by a Salford veteran. A number of parents joined us on Friday when the Year 5 children led the school in a very moving Remembrance Assembly. We all observed a minute silence at 11:00am on Monday 11th November and said prayers of gratitude and sorrow for those who have died protecting our freedom.

Basketball Tournament - 1st November

Congratulations to the Year 5 and 6 children who competed in the 3v3 basketball finals event at The Deans Primary School after qualifying last month. They came second place out of 8 primary schools - Fantastic!

Stone Age Day - 29th October

Year 3 stepped back in time to the Stone Age this week with a visit from two pre-history experts! The children had a great time enhancing their learning of this history topic with lots of artefacts and fun as you can see from the photos.

Football Match - 11th October

A big well done to the football team who played against Wharton Primary School and won 3:1!

Basketball Tournament - 9th October

Congratulations to the Year 5 and 6 children who competed in a 3v3 basketball event at The Deans Primary School. We played against four other schools and won every game - amazing!

Year 4 Salford Museum & Art Gallery Trip - 8th October

Year 4 have been learning all about the Victorians in history this half term, so they took a trip to Salford Museum and Art Gallery to find out more about the past. They spent some time in the Victorian Gallery examining paintings as well as some Victorian artefacts. The children then took a trip back in time to Lark Hill Place - a recreation of a typical northern Victorian street. The children had the opportunity to dress up in period costumes and explore the street, finding the different artefacts they had studied earlier in the day. What a fantastic day!

Poetry Assembly - 3rd October

This week was poetry week and we had a celebration assembly on Thursday where each class performed a poem for the rest of the school. The children did a wonderful job and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the performances. Take a look at the poem written by Year 6, 'St. Mark's is the place' below. It is inspired by the poem 'This Is The Place'  which was written by Tony Walsh about the spirit of Manchester.

Farm Trip - 1st October

Year 3 had a exciting day at Northwood Farm where they had fun learning about lambing, milking cows and feeding chickens. Take a look at some of the photos to see what a great time they had...

Macmillan Cake Sale - 27th September

This Friday, we had a cake sale to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support charity.  Lots of children in Key Stage 2 brought in donations to make it a huge success. A total of £174.30 was raised and is going to a very worthy cause - thank you all for your support!

Chaplaincy Team

Meet our new Year 6 Chaplaincy Team.  Well done to Jonathon, Cuba, Sydney, Minnie, Daniel and Ava who were selected after completing an application form and interview. They will be fulfilling a very important role this year, beginning by leading us in our weekly prayer assemblies.  Click here to find out more about the role of our chaplains.

Imperial War Museum Trip - 11th September

Year 6 had a fascinating trip to the Imperial War Museum at Salford Quays. They have been learning about WW2 this half term so they enjoyed having the opportunity to explore the museum, take notes and speak to veterans about their real-life experiences.  Some of the children were even able to speak to a WW2 evacuee who shared her experience with them and answered questions. What an interesting trip!

Swintonbury 2024 - 16th July

What a fantastic day we all had at our Swintonbury Festival! There was so much for the children to enjoy - a bouncy castle, inflatable assault courses and slide,  a range of stalls and games, a tattoo bar, face painting,  guess the teacher, a chance to soak Coach Rob and lots of festival music. In the afternoon, we were joined on the field by parents as we carried on celebrating and had ice creams, candy floss, cakes and drinks. Thank you to everyone who supported us and came along to join in the fun - what an unforgettable day!

Dance Festival 2024

This week we had our annual Dance Festival and wow, what a show! The children were all fantastic and we're very proud of them. Here are some photographs of the children performing.

Holy Communion - 29th June

Congratulations to all of the Year 3 children who made their First Holy Communion today at St. Mark's Parish Church. It was such a joyful celebration and the children were fantastic.

Sports Day - 25th June

Well done to all of the children (and some of the parents!) who took part in Sports Day. We had glorious weather and the children all had lots of fun. Thank you to everyone who came along to support the children, we hope you all enjoyed it as much as we did!

Boys Football Match - 19th April

Congratulations to the Years 5 and 6 boys football team who won 3:1 against Wardley Primary School. They came back from being one nil down with goals scored by Blake (Y6), Logan (Y6) and Fred (Y5). Well done boys!

Lenten Fundraising - March

Thank you so much for all of your generous donations during Lent. The children have been raising money for Caritas throughout Lent with raffles, cake sales, Wild Hair Day and of course the 5p Trail! With your help, the children have raised a lot of money and all of this will be going to help people less fortunate than us.

 

Netball Team - 25th March

Well done to our school netball team who played their last game of the league this week. They have had some challenging matches but have shown resilience and determination throughout. Well done for making us so proud!

World Book Day - 14th March

What a fantastic World Book Day we had this year at St. Mark's! Our Alice in Wonderland themed day began with an exciting assembly where the children were able to show off their amazing costume. Each class was given a special task to complete so that the Mad Hatter could host his tea party without upsetting the Queen of Hearts! The children were treated to some exciting surprises during the day - a bouncy castle and a fairground teacups ride were set up in the playground and children were invited to play some giant lawn games in the hall too.

We all had a super fun day and can't wait to do it all again next year!
